Yulgilbar has always believed in it’s Mare Power but the 2023 NCHA Futurity and Aged Event show certainly proved the strength of our broodmares as producers. In all, there were 15 horses entered in the aged events held at the Futurity show wearing the Yulgilbar brand. There were six Yulgilbar three year old horse entered in the Futurity events with one making both Snaffle Bit Futurity finals, Yulgilbar Miss Molly shown by newcomer Tara Williams and three Yulgilbar horses making the Open Futurity finals.

The first go round of the Open Futurity was won by Yulgilbar Made To Roc who is by Hashtags and out of Yulgilbar Roc N Roy who is a past NCHA Futurity Champion in her own right. Robert Mackay trained and showed the big blue roan mare to perfection and also tied for the highest aggregate going into the final. Made to Roc (Bluey) did not make one mistake in her three go rounds but unfortunately she had late draws in each go round and was second last in the Final where there were not many good cattle left to challenge her. She marked a creditable 220 in the final and had so much more to give.

Yulgilbar Mister Hashtags a red roan gelding by Hashtags and out of SVR Reys Smart Chic IMP (over $90,000 USA earnings) and also the dam of Yulgilbar Kinda Tuff put in three outstanding performances including the Gelding Incentive Final and then scored 221 in the Open Final. Trained and shown by Todd Graham, Mister Hashtags (Tag) is a hard stopping and spectacular moving gelding who handled each cows with ease.

Last but by far not least is Yulgilbar Magic Stevie the bay gelding by Stevie Rey Von out of the Spins Gypsy Queen (over $64,000 AUS earnings and Novice Horse of the Year) who is also the dam of Yulgilbar Limited Edition ( multiple aged event finalist). Magic Stevie was purchased as a yearling by Tracey McClurg and only had seven months in training with Todd Graham when Tracey decided to enter him in the Open Futurity. Todd had a soft spot for Magic Stevie as Spins Gypsy Queen was a favourite show mare. After being consistantly good through the go rounds and the Gelding Incentive Final Magic Stevie had a great draw in the final and scored a 224. His run in the first herd made for a very nerve racking wait for Tracey and all from Yulgilbar. The rest is history and Yulgilbar Magic Stevie was crowned the 2023 NCHA Futurity Champion and $100,000 added to his NCHA Life Time earnings. The win marked Todd Graham’s eight NCHA Championship and the third NCHA Futurity Champion bred by Yulgilbar Quarter Horses.
